Diesel Cam Belt change query, do I really need to...

Post by Donnie » Sun Jun 21, 2020 3:38 pm

.... rotate the cam to the timing marks? I thought it was a case of marking the pulleys and old belt then transferring them to the new one and lining them up then with the pulley marks?

My guess is if you line up the timing marks before you start it's easier to salvage if something should move, but others will have more techie info. :)

The key thing is you need to ensure the cam shaft and crankshaft are kept in the same position relative to each other. The easy way is to use the timing marks as it is easy to spot movement. 0

As a double check and somewhat easier to see remove the small plate on the top of the bell housing and check the position of the flywheel markings that you'll find there. I used correction marker (white ink) to mark the pulley's and the TDC marker in the bell housing.
