My 96 diesel motor has 280k kms on the clock and the bottom end seems to knock above 3000rpm, I thought about replacing the big end shells before any scoring/damage occurs to the crank. The engine gives good power, doesn't consume oil.
At lower revs the motor sounds fine so I thought a bit of preventitve maintenance would be in order, is it a job that can be done without too many problems?
Any comments appreciated, thanks.

Re: New big end shells ??
Have you checked the oil pressure, and when was the oil filter replaced .
Re: New big end shells ??
The oil switch is removed and a oil gauge is fitted.,the oil pressure can be adjusted but I would get the advice from an experienced mechanic.

If you use a T-piece you can fit the gauge and retain the warning light.
