Rear interior light

Post by Nickmitch2000 » Tue Dec 31, 2019 9:54 pm

The interior lights on my 1995 2.5 diesel all work fine apart from one.
The rear most light switches on and off fine but does nothing when left in the middle (door open) position.
I presume the boot should activate it but I can't see a switch to check.
The side door does the main rear light just fine.
Any advise, greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Its down inside the door itself, most common problems with items in the rear door is where the wiring loom goes thru the rubber gator top right of the door, so might be worth checking that first see if there are any broken wires similar to the problem with the drivers door loom.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll have a look.
I recently put some washers between the hinges to jack the rear door up slightly as it was catching really badly at the bottom. I did notice the rubber boot only now goes in one side and not in the door and body at the same time.
Cable damage I guess is a very real possibility.
Do you know if it's possible to replace the rubber sleeve with a longer one? And how to disconnect the cables in order to do so.

Thanks

I believe from the diagrams that there are a bunch of connectors inside the vehicle at the back top right where the cables enter the vehicle, but not been in there myself to confirm!

Nice one, thanks.
I'll check it out.
I'll take some pictures whilst I'm at it and post here (if possible). May be useful to you or someone else interested in future.

I'm not sure the very back light actualy works with the tailgate.

Agree with Geoff's comments on the loom, common cause of the rear wiper and screen heater failing, but I think that light is just from the 'parts bin' and the 'door' position isn't used in the Bongo.

And yes, the loom can be unplugged and replaced, about sixty quid, but a repair is simple enough.

If your back door is catching at the catch check your spare wheel isn't wound up too tight, it can pull up the rear cross member where the catch is bolted too.

Thanks Ady

Pretty sure the spare wheel carrier is ok as it's only been me put a spare in there. Jolly good info though, I didn't know that. =D>

I'll check tomorrow as it might just work, when the rear wiper packed up I did some soldering and found no less that 7 broken wires.

All soldered, but I never checked what else started working.
