Interesting post. I read somewhere Bongos were only designed for 10yrs use. If thats true maybe they never envisaged the sump needing removing.

I've an idea most cars are designed to last only 7 years.

Not sure but I don't think they were made to last ten years I think it's something to do with emissions in Japan and I think they have to get rid at 10 years old, not sure if correct but heard it somewhere

Yes, pretty much correct.
At ten years Japanese vehicles have to pass the Shaken, a sort of mega MoT, and priced accordingly.
Thus it's not cost effective to own a car over that age, hence many sold a dockside auctions.
Partly Greenwash about emissions, largely to protect car jobs.
