Delayed shift up through 1st 2nd and 3rd N reg bongo

Post by Streatwise » Wed Sep 11, 2019 2:11 pm

Recently had leaking fuel pump seals fixed and pump cleaned out, chap also tightened accelerator cable at same time as it was loose.
Before this gear change was all fine, changing up in normal driving at around 2000 revs really smoothly. Since getting it back changing up from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd its more between 3 and 4000 revs, then changes down easily, so driving round town is constantly changing up and down or revving way too high.

Open road higher gears are fine 50 to 60 mph at 2000 revs and smooth.
Have seen changing transmission fluid drop sump and filter clean before refilling can help...

Any ideas appreciated as don't want to spend money doing the above if no point but on flip side don't want to spend a lot more getting gear box tested and checked out
If no need..

Cheers all in advance

No expert on this but there is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) which if the cable had been adjusted might now be in the wrong position and as its this which tells the ECU/Autobox when to change might be the problem ?

Thanks for that, will try this first and keep you posted

Probably should have already tried this, as it was working perfectly before the work, seems likely something that was done is the issue. Was only the chap who did the fuel pump insisting that him tightening the accelerator cable could in no way effect the gear change timings made me not try.
Should be easy enough as the screw thread is shiny clean to the point it was at before.

Don't forget to mark the TPS current position carefully before adjusting it, just in case you need to get back to where you started 8)

OK so have loosened the nut back to the position it was before the fule pump work was done and seems to have done the trick!
Haven't done a proper test drive, just up and down the road but seems to be shifting properly

Tried to add a picture to show which part exactly I adjusted but couldn't. There is a picture on another post blue and red circle showing the part, 2 nuts on a screw thread either side of a rubber Bush or something that the cable goes through.
It was really tight, you Could see where it had been tightened from as the screw thread there was shiny clean.. now slightly loose so hope that's ok

Anyway hope that's sorted it
Thanks for the advice guys really appreciate it 👍
