Screw holes in van floor
Hello all,
Firstly, apologies if this is in the incorrect forum.
I recently removed the carpet and ply flooring as I need to replace them both for conversion purposes. Although there were no rust patches that I was expecting to find, there are two holes the size of an old 2p piece where the sink drain pipes fed out of the van, and also, there are a number of tiny holes where the previous converters screwed the plywood into the metal floor of the van.
My question is whether it is feasible for repair these holes without having to weld patched onto the van. If I could treat the holes with rust prevention paint and maybe if there are rubber type bungs out there that could be used to plug up the holes??
Anyone got any advice or experience in dealing with this type of thing?
Cheers
Mark

Re: Screw holes in van floor
Probably. But a butt weld patch is best, don’t do overlap (joggle joint) because you’ll create a water trap and there are plenty enough of those already

For the small holes how about protection then install pop rivets, then finish with underseal / mastic.
For the larger, protection, then install rubber blanking grommets....

Good tips above.
Self tappers would also, work in the small holes, that's what was there after all, then treat both sides.
For the large ones you could look at blank/blind/blanking grommets.

Cheers guys.
I went with bungs for the bigger holes and tappers for the smaller ones. Painted top with zinc and about to get the underside sorted.

Re: Screw holes in van floor
Just had one other question for those who have laid vinyl in their vans.
When it comes to the wheel arches, do people generally whip the panels off and then vinyl up to the metal arches OR leave the panels on and then let the seat rail covers cover that bit? Not 100% sure what the easiest and cleanest method might be......

If it is just screw holes you want to cover and all the carpets/flamables are out the way, now would be the time to welding, probabley best option too imo, grind the holes to bare metal and each hole will take 2-3 seconds to fill [if your doing it yourself be careful as i think its 0.8-1mm thick steel, dont wanna blow bigger holes] grind over and spray, you would never know they were there in the first place, only the 2p size hole will need a patch but that can be butt welded and you would never know.
if they are very small hole you may get away with "seal sealer" [wear gloves]
