We thinking getting a small caravan and will require a tow bar fitted.
Have read recent posts about ensuring that the cross member (?) is not badly corroded and is up to the job etc.
However I know there are a variety of tow bars out there but is there a particular one which lends itself to the Bongo
or is there a particular one to be avoided? Any information appreciated.

I'd be interested to hear what replies you get to this question. I've been intending to get a tow ball fitted to my Bongo (not really for towing - but for protection against being rear-ended, which happened to me last year).
Also interested in which types are prone to cause corrosion on the cross-member.
Would it be simple enough to underseal / protect these when you fit them?

I bought one from eBay and from what I remember it has quite a lot of bolts and that some of them attach to the chassis rails and not just the cross member. I will see if I can dig out more detail but mine only ever carries a bike carrier so it’s it’s not quite the same as a caravan. Given the reasonably well documented concerns I’d be surprised if most weren’t designed to now deal with most towing needs

I think you will find that there are two main ones used on Bongo's;
https://www.tow-trust.co.uk/towbars/maz ... ut/1992%3E
and
http://www.a1towbars.com/towbar-details.php?id=460
Both now have the extra nearside strut to fully support the bar.
