Starting issues

Post by Snowy » Thu May 23, 2019 9:22 pm

Hi all

My 1995 2.5td 4WD has a bit of an issue starting. The was (is)? a drain on the battery and even when the batteries charged there is clicking from the starter motor. A mobile auto electrician took a look and we tested the charge from the alternator which seemed fine so he suggested I put in a new starter motor which I did, but I still have the same problem.

I assume the solenoid is in the starter itself and therefore with a new one okay, so I'm a bit befuddled to say the least?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Did the sparks test the battery?

Could be it's cobbled and not holding any kind of charge, especially if the parsitic drain has left it flat for a while.

The Aldi/Lidl radios can suck a battery flat fairly quickly.

Sorry you have a problem, but welcome :) to BF.

HI, did you test the starter motor before you fitted it ??? and made sure that the battery posts/clamps and earth connections are clean and secure .

Take care
