No electrics working apart from headlights.

Post by Daviez2k5 » Sun May 12, 2019 8:31 pm

Evening.
Today the following sequence of events have happened. Wether all related I have no idea.
Bongo was taking a good 15 seconds of turning over until it started.
Upon further investigation, Found the thin pipe from injectors was split on end and come off. I gathered this is letting air in and causing the long start up.
I repaired this fiddly little pipe and fired her up. Took 15 or so seconds of turning over but she fired up. Guess it still had air in.
After running for a few mins I turned her off, then noticed no interior light.
I turned the key in ignition, nothing
I found the 100a fuse had blown (wow). I thought it may have been due to it taking a while turning over.
I replaced this with a 100a trip (next day delivery on amazon prime) but still have nothing.
I have tested there is 12v leaving the new trip fuse
I have 12v at the alternator
Every single fuse in the van has been double checked.
I've tried jump leads from my other van still nothing.

Lost now dont know where to go from here so thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers

You say you checked every fuse - are you getting voltage at the fuses?

You need to trace how far the voltage is getting. Try at various points.

Check the fusible link.

Check that your ground connection is good too.

Does the vehicle have any type of immobiliser / isolator fitted?

Take Care.

Thanks for the reply. I've only visually checked every fuse.

There's 12v at the alternator so gather that's OK.

Where dows the 100a feed into, where would my next point of call be?

I will rest in the fuse box later, to see if it's powered up.

Also been suggested I shall check the earth from. Battery to body.

Thanks

Regarding the immobiliser / isolators. Not that I know of or can see. I gather it'll be pretty noticeable if there is something fitted.

Thanks

Upon investigation this morning.

I have absolutley no power at the internal drivers knee fuse box

I also have absolutley nothing at the center under bonnet fuse box.

But I have power at the alternator 12v and power going out of the 4 fuses at the main box on the battery.

The cable to the x02 fuse box center bonnet, does not go directly to the main as far as I can see, it goes down the sife of the battery but I can't seem to work out where to.

When you say you have power at the Alternator, there are two feeds one from the Headlight fuse which powers the field coils and the larger charging feed direct to the 100 Amp fuse. Are you certain that the replacement 100 Amp fuse is OK and fully bolted in as your other descriptions on FB make me wonder if the new 100 Amp is actually OK!

Not necessarily, more than often these are fitted as security measures and hidden from the wee stealy thief .

Test the new fuse with a meter

Thanks for all your replies.

The main cable from the 100a fuse. Drops down the right side of the starter battery, anyone know where it goes to? I installed the tank for my diesel heater just there so struggling for access. I think I need to trace that cable to see where it goes and twat power. I imagine it must split at some point, to feed alternator, and both fuse boxes. Does anyone know how and where the split is?

Regarding power at the alternator...
I have tested the main alternator cable got 12v on it disconnected from the actual alternator.
12v with 100a on and 0v with 100a off.

Thanks
