Hi Jim welcome to the site.

We had the original Jap double-din unit in our van, and it got replaced with a used Pioneer double-din radio/cd unit from eBay. The unit went straight in the existing hole without modification, and I opted to cut off the factory connector and solder on the Pioneer loom, rather than trying to get an adapter that works.

I used wiring info in this thread to confirm which wire was which.

I also found this thread just now that offer you some food for thought.

The generic (Pumpkin?) Android powered units seem to be fairly popular for a touch-screen do-it-all unit on a budget, but I have no experience of them.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks all for replies at present I’m looking about but before I buy I’m trying to find the physical size that would fit is it just a case of measuring full hole or should I be wary of depth
Thanks again Jimbongo

Just be aware that although the do it all chinese cheapies are very good...mine had video, reversing camera sockets, DAB radio etc for around £50....It did drain my starter battery over a week-end. They are permanently live unless you put an inline switch-off somewhere to isolate it. Wiring was a loom from Halfords, straight in without problems. Anyway, I swapped it for a KENWOOD DPX-7100Dab unit which fitted into the wiring loom without a problem. It also had a socket for the seperate bass box I fitted at the same time.
Also, there is a metal bar that runs past the back of the radio hole, so you will have to remove the glove box thingy and get your hand up past it to fiddle the wiring through. Good luck.

Draining the battery can be an issue with the Aldi/Lidl jobbies too.

I bought a kenwood DPX 5100 BT in Feb and fitted straight in. Used existing adaptor for the wiring. This is Bluetooth and takes a usb so didn't bother with cd. Have about 30CD on the flashdrive and can use Bluetooth to get digital radio. About £110

I've got Pumpkin units in both Bongo and car - they don't drain the battery and have Sat Nav / reverse cam and a MicroSD card for lots of Bongo Bopping Beat music....

+1 on the Pumpkin units. Fitted one to my mx5, no battery drain and does things no top brand units can. Also added a dab module which is brilliant. 1,000s os tracks on a micro sd, Waze, Spotify, power amp, tunein radio apps all work perfect. BT phone, reverse cam, use “ok google “ to play tracks, check weather, find destination, play videos..for the money, unbeatable. Sounds quality is better than the stock radio too (and I have the Bose setup)
