Blinds problemo !

Post by Gripped » Sun Mar 24, 2019 10:00 pm

As you can tell, I'm troubleshooting the new Bongo, and she has quite a few niggles to sort out.

The next on the list is the electric blinds. Quite simply, they don't work on any of the switches. One blind motor makes an unhealthy noise, but none of them actually move. As none of the rear switches work, does this rule out the drivers switches as the cause?

So any idea what tree I need to bark up first before I start dismantling the van?

This new one is making our ancient diesel Bongo look the paragon of reliability !

Much obliged.

Difficult to be precise, but always start by cleaning fuse sockets and switches, especially the pair in the front, they get least used and have greatest air flow for dust and moisture as the air re-circulation means all the cabin air is drawn to the front!

Good info from Geoff, and bear in mind it does no harm to operate the blinds manualy.

Just pull/push gently.

Well, thanks to the forum again.

As we currently have 2 Bongos, I was able to swap over a blind switch, which worked !! So isolated the problem to the switches.

Contacts were clean, so took the switches apart, and discovered that there are 2 metal rockers, which touch contacts to operate the blinds. A couple of these contacts were blackened with deposits or electrical corrosion. Anyway, cleaned up, and all working fine now !! Apart from noting that one of the tiny bulbs in a switch needs replacing, so a visit to the motor factor for me.

:D
