Oil Sump

Post by jockodipunto » Sat Mar 23, 2019 9:11 pm

Hello all,

I am hoping that there might be a straightforward yes or no answer the my question but does the Diesel Bongo user a gasket for the oil sump? I 'believe' I have a leaking oil sump but I can't be 100% sure. The oil filter might be leaking but the leak appears to be manifesting at the sump.

If there is no gasket (as I believe I have read on here), if I have to send it to the garage to be 're-done' what should the garage use to gunk it up?

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers

Make sure it is the sump first. Real leaks from here are rare but phantom ones are common. The trouble is usually at the front and the oil migrates backwards along the seam and looks like a sump leak.
Can't help with the diesel but if it's a sealant like the 2.0 then Threebond 701B is the Rolls Royce of this stuff but any RTV will work. Don't put too much on like the idiot that had done mine as it makes it's way into the oil strainer.

Cool - thanks for the feedback.

In that case I won't worry too much about the sump area and leave that until last.
