Turns out the lumpy idle was caused by it only firing on 5 cylinders at idle but then the ignition system picking up enough juice to start firing the missing 6th cylinder once on the move which explains the symptoms pefectly.

Problem diagnosed as knackered HT lead so pattern set ordered via Bongoland thanks to useful advice on this forum, £94 for the whole caboodle (with discount) which didn't seem bad really!

Excellent !

My symptoms were the reverse. Ran smooth at idle, then ran rough at high revs, as the spark started arcing to the block instead of the plug. Quickly diagnosed as one blown HT lead cap. One more was nearly blown, the others were fine.

She runs perfectly now she has new leads and invested in new spark plugs too. Dizzy cap and rotor are on my spares shelf just in case.
