Electric window rest button?

Post by Bamfman » Sun Jan 27, 2019 3:43 pm

Is there a reset button on the electric window motor?
I had the hook up cable passed through the window and took the window up too far. This has stopped the window from working. Not yet taken the door card off but hoping there is a cut out and that I wont have to replace the motor!
note - other side still works so assume its not the fuse and also know about the passenger window isolation switch.

No reset button and as you say not the fuse if passenger side is working. The motors are pretty robust are you sure its not just jammed the mechanism?

update. took window regulator bolts off and window moves freely by hand. Tried motor and it work on the up but not down. Live to the connection to the motor from the switch both up and down. Now motor has pushed the widow to far to re fit regulator bolts!
Have managed to secure it for today and will have to fully remove and see if I can get into the motor.
My wife decided to buy a Bongo 3 month ago and as an Ex Mechanic told her it would end up being a money pit and have been proved correct. Not spent this much time working on a vehicle in 25 years!!! (lot more than just the bloody window).

Ah yes a mechanic told me the same 13yrs ago before I bought mine. But its been my best car ever, though there have been bills along the way. But by now they're an old car, generally cheap for what they offer, but bound to have issues esp. with an incident like that. I had to spend £11 and 30 mins today fitting a new window switch to mine. Whereabouts are you, in case diy proves impractical and a good Bongo specialist is nearby

Update 2
short answer - fixed at no cost
long answer - removed regulator and took motor off to bench test. Discovered that it doesn't earth via the bolts through the motor but alternates live and earth (up and down) via the 2 wires to the switch. Got some interesting test light results at the switch and traced fault - you have probable already guest - to a break in the wire at the door hinge!
so not at all related to trapping the hookup cable in the window!!!

Excellent result, best to replace the entire section of loom cable, Karl Chadwick does a repair kit, as otherwise the other wires in the loom will start to fail in the coming months and always at the most inconvenient of times ....
