Alloy with spare wheel carrier

Post by Alkers » Sat Jan 19, 2019 2:55 pm

I've bought a fifth alloy to replace the space saver as I've read numerous accounts of people fitting them in the space underneath so no issues there.
My problem is, despite being the correct centre bore, the fitting at the end of the cable will not fit through the centre of the alloy as there is a lip where the centre cap fits from the outside.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is it possible to modify the carrier to fit the alloy?
It looks like my other alloys are all the same, despite fitting the van with no issues, the spare wheel holder will not fit through them!

Are you lifting the wheel a bit as you insert the fitting?

Certainly with a full size steel rim this is necessary.

I'm not sure I follow you? I have plenty of slack in the cable, it's the recepticle that slots through the centre bore of the wheel which will not fit through.
Thanks

Yep, I follow that. :)

With my steel rim you need to lift one side of the wheel off the ground to get the fitting through the centre hole, put one end through then centre it up, lie rim back on ground, then lift with the winch.

Hope that helps. 8)
