Options for Gasket Material?

Post by Jordan F » Tue Jan 15, 2019 9:50 pm

Hey everyone,

In the process of replacing the head on my 1997 Diesel Bongo, I have seem to have misplaced the gasket for the water outlet pipe , part number 15-169, in the chart here: https://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/ ... f02.html#9.

Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to make your own gasket with gasket material, or any other alternative instead of having to order over seas again (Im In Canada).

Thanks!

They are very easy to make from gasket paper or even a bit of card, this is one way.....

Hey Teenmal,

Would cardboard still be an okay material to use for this spot as it is attached the head and subject to high temperatures. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Yes it should be ok or if in doubt use gasket paper that should be readily available from auto shops for a couple of bucks a sheet, re high temperatures , that particular part has coolant running through it , should only reach ..max...100c.

The most important thing ,is to make sure both surfaces are perfectly clean and level ( mating) .

Take care.
