Another rear heater by pass question

I don't have a problem at the moment, but I am thinking of bypassing my rear heater before it becomes a problem. I have trawled through many posts and have seen a couple of reports where a connection has been made to the vertical part of the T piece above alternator to the flow of the front heater.
Can any one please confirm the internal diameter of the hose to be used, as one of the comments I read said they "think" it was 16mm.
