Oil capacity 2.0 litre Petrol
Doing and oil and filter change, how many litres do I need? I've read 3.9 and 4.5 litres - which is correct?

Re: Oil capacity 2.0 litre Petrol
Not absolutely sure! but im just looking at doing my first oil change on my Bongo too.
And from my reasearch so far, it seems 4.5lts for oil & filter or 4lts for just the oil change.
Hopefully someone can confirm (or not) as the case may be

Re: Oil capacity 2.0 litre Petrol
There's a couple of oil filters available for the FE, one is longer than the other. Do it the usual way: put 4L in and check on dipstick. Start engine, run for minute or so, shut down, check and top up if needed.
On the subject of grades, I tried a 5W synthetic post rebuild and found my lifters drained down too quickly (it ticked after standing for a couple of days) so I went to a 10W/40 and it's much happier on that. Lifters are quiet after 10days+ now.

Capacity listed here http://mazdabongo.com/catalog/mazda-bon ... ol-diesel/ 4.5 litre with filter change. Also noted the info about grade being 10w 40 rather than 5w 30.

Here's the parent directory for the 626 shop manual (careful, this covers the DOHC and the diesel so look out for the F6/F8/FE SOHC designation):
https://www.mazdabg.com/ftp-uploads/626 ... 0626%20GD/
Here's the lubrication section (2A):
https://www.mazdabg.com/ftp-uploads/626 ... ngine).PDF
Lists 3.6L for the sump and .3L for the filter. That's what I found for the shorter filter so this is correct.
All the usual grades are listed for oil depending on climate and load. 10w40 seems to work for UK me...
Change interval is 6mths or 7.5K miles which reflects the state of the art for mineral oils back then but if you want to see what happens if you change it every 12K look at my 'smokey Bongo' thread and there is the result

Re: Oil capacity 2.0 litre Petrol
I did mine with 10w/40 semi synthetic a couple of weeks ago with the filter and it took slightly less than 4litres.

Ta, back to 3.9 ltr and let it settle before checking dip stick then.

That is usually a sign that the HLA are worn, it would be worth while if not already done, fit a good quality Oil filter with a NRV and Magnatec oil.You usually select the grade of oil to the condition of the engine.

I too used a semi-synth. Castrol have re-branded GTX as 'Ultraclean' which is a 10w40 and very full bodied with a good nose and finish.
Bongo loves it but doesn't consume any now having been on the 12 steps.

Nah, all 12 replaced as part of the head work. Same lifters quiet now for days since the 10w40 went in. FE is an old design, uses head bolt channel as oil gallery. Rocker shafts feed the HLA's and they are relatively wide so oil pressure takes a while to come up and no time at all to bleed back down again. That is usually a sign that the HLA are worn

Re: Oil capacity 2.0 litre Petrol
Good post that, especially as I was looking at trying to get a set of HT Leads and was obviously certain that the HT leads were not bespoke for the for the Bongo and the prices being asked for a set will get the set you recommend.
