Hi all, help needed please. I have a 2 Litre petrol engine Bongo which I bought as a birthday present for myself in May this year. On about 8 occasions whether the engine is hot or cold it does not always start in 1st gear. I can jump in, turn the key and pull away only to find that it appears to have started in 2nd or 3rd gear, if I continue until I find a safe place to stop the temperature guage can be higher than it would be if I started in 1st gear. When it starts in 2nd or 3rd gear, it will not change up or down from that gear and the kickdown doesn't work either.
I have checked the colour and amount of automatic transmission fluid and that is all good. After I turn the engine completely off and take the key out, I start it up again and it drives as normal and the temperature guage is ok. It seems to be getting more and more frequent lately so whatever it is that is worn (etc) is getting worse and I'd like to fix it before it goes altogether.
All replies gratefully received and thank you.

Re: Not selecting 1st gear
It could be ECU or Gearbox, I think you need to get a gearbox specialist to take a look and advise.
