I think the idea behind the blank is just to establish if its the egr or something else. All pipes are ok to and from the turbo. There second hand egr on eBay for 25 quid but hoping this will give me the answer

OK. If it's just for diagnosis you can cut out a bit of a coke can the shape of the EGR joint.

Look on eBay for EGR blanking plate copy the design of the ones with the slots so you just losen the bolts and slide it in.

No point using proper blanking plate just for testing

That's a great tip and shall be trying it out tomorrow. Rocket gasket needs changing so shall be doing this same time. Shall update once done. Thanks for all advice so far
