Yes pre 2006 Diesel engine cars will still go through the old MOTT. AND as you say tampering with emissions is a Criminal offence.

After much messing about, I decided to put some UV dye in the coolant.

After running for about 15mins I have spotted a tiny leak from the pipes right by the air filter near the rear heater matrix.

This would explain why I'm overheating. Not enough pressure to stop it boiling early due to a leak so small I would never have found it without UV.

I've already bought a new stat so I'll fit it anyway and also going to flush cooling system with some chemical flush.

Hopefully my drive to Isle of Wight in 2 weeks will go without a hitch. Fingers crossed.

I'll post a follow-up once I've done the work. Won't be until next weekend so stay tuned for the next episode.

Well wouldn't you flaming well know it (probably not).

Used Transmission fluid glows under UV light. New stuff doesn't but both the leak from the gearbox cooler pipe and the dipstick glow almost the same colour as the bloody coolant trace dye.

It's actually a more yellow glow whereas the trace dye is more green.

Hey Ho. The £90 for the cooling pipes is still required but doesn't explain overheating.

I'm fitting new stat and chemical flushing engine on weekend. I'll keep you posted.

Did anyone on here know ATG glows under UV light? Weird hey!
