Tyre size and Wobble over 65mph
Referring to a Locked post:https://igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/vie ... 0&start=15
I have brought a Bongo about 5 months ago and I also get a wobble at speed. I have to concentrate really hard to keep it under control. The speedo also reads 4 mph faster than the Sat Nav.
The sticker on my Bongo says my Tyre size should be: 215/70 R15
I have alloys and the Tyre size on all 4 wheels is 205/70 R15
I have read about spigots and I dont know if I have any on my alloys or if my alloys are factory fitted or purchased afterwards
Bongo is a 1997 2.5 V6 Petrol
Any thoughts please on the wobble and speedo?

Re: Tyre size and Wobble over 65mph
if it is an awd 4x4 then i would put the recommended tyre size on as you can damage your transfer box/diff , also is the wobble and actual movement wobble or is it excessive vibration?

Not a 4x4 - also its more of the slightest movement in the steering at speed is exaggerated and to get it back straight can be difficult and you end up looking like your probably out of control if watched from behind
Re: Tyre size and Wobble over 65mph
are you getting a knocking sound when turning corners? if you are its your steering ball joints however with your tyres not being the correct size there is a chance someone has changed the tyres and not balanced them properly.
check to see if you have weights on the rims of your wheels, if not they will need balanced.
Other common faults are wishbones and anti-roll bar bushes but not likely to cause a "wobble" and you would hear them most likely

Have the wheels balanced and tracking checked at a tyre centre. Probably cost £60 / £75. Should sort it.

No Knocking - both front wheels have weights and the following was off my recent MOT:knpenny wrote: ↑Wed May 23, 2018 10:54 pm are you getting a knocking sound when turning corners? if you are its your steering ball joints however with your tyres not being the correct size there is a chance someone has changed the tyres and not balanced them properly.

-Offside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)
-Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint (2.4.G.2)

The wheels might have weights but are they still in the correct place? Have them rebalanced before you start looking for more costly problems.

Well worth checking tyre pressures.
Re the speedo, that's normal. They almost always over read but the sat nav will be accurate. Don't worry about it.
It is also possible the wheel nuts are incorrect. Sometimes alloys are fitted with the original nuts for the steel rims.

OK - Problem SOLVED
The rear tyres on my Bongo were 205/70 R15 - they should have been 215/70 R15 (according to the sticker on the inside of the door)
Changed the tyres and - WOBBLE GONE
Happy camper

Re: Tyre size and Wobble over 65mph
Excellent. Suspect the cure was probably linked to wheel balancing rather than change in tyre size though?
Re: Tyre size and Wobble over 65mph
No, it was the tyre size - tried band new tyres put on the back several weeks ago and that didnt cure it - only the new size tyre did the trick - now I have two brand new spare tyres sitting in the shed that came off the back, that'll put on the front when needed
