Transmission Control Unit or ECU

Post by Woody » Mon Feb 05, 2018 5:34 pm

Hi All,

Can anyone advise me on where, or how, to locate the above unit within the vehicle. I have been trying to source a new part and have been told I require the part number to do so.
The vehicle is a 2000 petrol 2.0l automatic

I hope you've got deep pockets! These ECUs cost around £1100 plus postage plus VAT.

Might be worth having a word with George at BongoSpares, he used to have a load of recovered units.
Has it been confirmed that the TCM is the actual problem ? Not many TCM/PCM get reported as being faulty as such.

Echo that, what is the problem which necessitates replacement?

Thanks for all replies. Sounds costly but will contact George, describe symptoms and hope for some simple fix.

Have had some helpful replies already. The garage strongly suspect it is the ECU/TCU. It gets to the top of revs range, seems to be restricted and then changes with a bang. All fault codes were cleared, it ran for 3 hours and now no power and struggles before clearing again. Very difficult to describe but sounds terminal!

Thanks

Sounds like poor engine performance to me. What were the codes & were they gearbox or engine codes?

Garage cleared codes but cannot remember what they were. Definitely gear box.
Really could do with a Bongo friendly garage in Birmingham if you know of one.

Why definitely gearbox?
Garage cleared codes but cannot remember what they were
? Extraordinary - use a different, professional, garage in future.

As I say, classic engine issue.

Good luck, I shall offer no more advice on this.

When he says gearbox I think he might be referring to gearbox "Codes" . I would hope so.??

Take care.
