Manual Heater Controls

Post by WestyK » Thu Dec 28, 2017 5:16 pm

Hi All

Merry Christmas.

Just been looking at Bongo parts on e bay (as you do  ) and noticed that the later heater controls are all rotary rather than sliding as they are on mine. 1995 model.
Think this looks a lot better and a bit more modern.
Anyone know if these parts are interchangeable.
Both manual not the climate control ones.

Quite fancy giving it a go if feasible, Just for the hell of it. :)

Cheers

If you mean the Climate Control type controls then no, its a significant upgrade with lots more sensors and changes in the looms that you won't have in the existing wiring looms.

Hi Geoff

No not the climate control type. its one of these.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-Bongo- ... 1438.l2649

Mine has the sliding type of control.

It still uses bowden cables to connect to the heater assembly so may just work.

I assumed that they are from a later bongo

Thanks

Hi guys,

new Bongo owner (4 days in and all good!) and, instead of starting a new thread I thought I would re-gnite this one because I would like to do the same as the OP.

I too would like to swap the older sliding heat and vent selector for the more modern rotary one like this https://www.bongospares.co.uk/shop/inte ... trol-unit/

Are these manually-controlled units interchangeable?

Thanks.

Dave.

Hi Dave

I did do this and it is working fine.
It physically fitted ok and all the manual cable fittings worked fine.

The hardest part was the wiring for the Fan, AC and Rear Demister as it wasn't a straightforward wire for wire swap.
I am ok with wiring as i have some electronics experience but it still took some figuring out with the aid if the 2 models wiring diagrams.

I am happy with the result and the look. But would I do it again? Probably not!

Thanks for the reply Ian, much appreciated.

To be honest there are a couple of other things I want to spend my money on first so am planning ahead. Another reason for wanting to swap is because I am looking to upgrade the dash dials and gear selector fascias to white ones. The website I have seen the kits on shows a white background for the heater control unit but it is out of stock and not looking likely it will be back in stock either, hence the thought to swap the units. A bit vain, I know!

Nothing wrong with making the van how you want it :D
Its all part of the fun.
That's the only reason I did it to be honest. no other reason to

I like messing with cars but its not for everyone. :?

Hi all

Can I as a possibly foolish question.

I have the sliding manual controls but think i may of damaged a cable as the vent selector is no longer working.

How do I get behind there to have a look? Do i have to take the whole dash off?

Thanks

No but they are a bit fiddly, the unit removes like a radio does, remove left & right trim sections and then insert release tool, but you also have to reach behind and disconnect the bowden cables see here http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 1of02.html

Have a look down in the footwell.

The cables are prone to coming off the plastic thingy there.
