No ... not the same....skimming is taking the head to a engineering shop and having a bit machined off......decking is done with a piece of plate glass, engineers blue and cutting compound. Done in situ...do a search on here and there have been a couple of posts. I think that’s right but never actually done one myself.

Re: Cardiff - Starting & coolant loss problems
Just searched.....decking the block......it’s all there....Simon Jones is the man to consult.
Re: Cardiff - Starting & coolant loss problems
This is decking the Block, using emery or similar method is merely cleaning the surface.

If you are removing the head it is normal practice to time the engine (cam belt ) After the head has been Fitted.
Take care.

plonkatronix wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2018 4:02 pmI think you missed my point, my experience tells me to place it a 'timed' position for removal to save the need to turn anything once belt has been removed... sorted now, I found the 24mm spanner seat on the cam to help move it round
Don't think so, after you remove the head you will be turning the engine to do the crowns, also the new head will be in a different position.
But it looks like you know something I don't.
Take Care and good luck.
Re: Cardiff - Starting & coolant loss problems
