Also, the bongo is in Leeds, do you think any garage would be ok to take it for fitting (I have no tools or anything here), or should I seek out a bongo specialist (I'm not sure there is one in Leeds actually...)

For any work on the cooling system I would seek out a Bongo Savvy garage, anything else is pretty standard old tech.

Someone may well know an expert near you, and the Bongomeister is based in Sheffield.

Thanks Bob - no fit state to drive more than 5 mins without overheating so I took it local in the end, with the hose I ordered from bongoland. Hose fitted, coolant added (the pink GL12+ stuff) so fingers crossed that solves the problem.

However, when fitting the new hose, mechanic noticed another pipe had perished, and was leaking diesel (I wonder how long this has been going on for £££££ ) He said that the hose fell apart when he touch it basically. He's fitted a bodge job but advised me to order one of the correct size, as he didn't have one. Soooo, anybody have any ideas what part this is (pic below) and where to get one?

Did you check the local chap has bled the system properly?

This is vital.

The first picture looks like a mouse has been nibbling that rubber hose. They do that sort of thing. Don’t ask how I know

the only pipe i can think of in that area is the pipe from the vac pump pipe up to the solenoids on top of the rocker cover. this controls the vac to the cold starting solenoids and the egr valve.

Thanks for your help guys, I took it for a short drive yesterday after being in the mechanics - about 10 minutes in the temperature begins to rise and finally I had to pull over as I could hear the gurgling/boiling sound coming from behind the glove box

IF you are talking about the Diesel (leak off pipe) 9934104750 that runs down the back of the manifold to the pump this is the one you require.

Strayside Garage in Harrogate (I know it's up the road a bit) are Bongo friendly and have a collection and delivery service.

Wow great videos, thanks. Is there a chance that it is overheating just because it hasn't been bled properly andnothing more serious (crosses fingers)?

Videos by some well known Forum members, and they have done a great job.

That coolant should be fine, but you must be certain all the old stuff is flushed out if it's a different type. Anti freeze of different types isn't compatible, in spite of what our local Halfords told me.

Heya, just followed the informative videos. Only one thing didn't go as planned, in the video they say it is very important that the thermostat reaches a certain temperature as it opens up a pipe which needs to get hot before you can properly complete the process of bleeding and refilling the coolant. They say the pipe is on the passenger side coming out of the radiator, we ran the engine for a good 40mins and it never got hot, the coolant was boiling by the end so we definitely got it hot enough, could this be the reason why the bongo is overheating in general - thermostat not working?

I'm now considering taking her out for a test run again, though should I wait till she is completely cooled and top up the coolant a bit at cold temps beforehand?

thats the right pipe, it should get hot as in you can hold it for about 5 secs before you have to let go. if its not hot then it aint bled,

did you go round squeezing hoses to help shift stubborn air pockets.
did you get hot heaters. both front and back, this will indicate if you have water circulating through them.

dont drive it till your sure.
