Finding V6 Coolant Leak.

Post by Glenda » Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:02 am

I knew I would need help before the Toyota Ambulance arrives. :)
Just had a couple of great days at Folkestone. Since arriving home have been leaking coolant onto the road about a pint every 12 hours. Engine been cold for 12 hours and there is still a drip this morning.

It's under the main engine block and just hitting the bottom engine cover near a mid access hole. It's to the rear of the belts and almost in line with the power steering fluid filler.

Any hints? I'll be booking her in with the boys in Worthing

Cheers Haydn,
I took it over to the boys in Worthing this lunchtime to leave for them to fit in around other jobs. On way there windscreen wash, I noticed, had ran out. I wondered if that had been the leak. Got to garage and no leak from underneath supporting this view as reservoir now empty. No coolant loss at all.

Turned round and came home. Parked up and drip is immediately back. grrrr. Header tank only down from high to just below low. So will drop it back off again tomorrow.

I'm sure Bongos know if you're going to put them up for adoption.

Bit like trying to get the cat/dog to the vet.

When I got there there was no leak. It's now back with them and duly dripping at a steady flow rate. The boys are busy and will fit it in between jobs. Once up on the ramp I think they'll need an umbrella when tracing it.

In 10 years I've had some big overseas trips. In 10 years I've had the radiator go, the cam shaft oil seal go, the alternator go, the catalytic converter go and the front windscreen smashed. Every problem has happened within 5 miles of the home. =D>

Glenda - out of interest which Worthing Boys garage is your bus at please? I'm always looking for local 'specialist' places that I can maybe use. PM if you would rather not share publicly - thanks.

Yes they are Geoff's boys. I see you've been there before. Fine for routine work. I have visited Allan at Allansvehicles for 8 out of 10 years as he is a Bongo specialist.. Fit it in around a holiday in Devon.
When I buy the next vehicle from Wheelquick I may head to Wigan every year. The Lakes and Scas are calling....

pi***ng out the water pump was the diagnosis today. Two weeks in North Wales from next Friday may need to be shortened or changed.
