Horn not working

Post by mitchelln » Mon Aug 07, 2017 6:13 pm

Hi.

The horn is not working on Barry. I strongly suspect it's because it's missing! I can't see it anywhere at least.

Can anyone confirm where the horn is on a 2003?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I'll have another look.

Failing that, I'll fit some air horns that play the A-Team theme :D

Nope, can't see anything horn like in those areas!

No evidence of rusted bracketry either, or connectors for that matter...

Okay, found them. Much lower down than the diagram would leave you to believe! Accessible via the wheel arch right in the corner of the bumper.

Wire was off one. Aha! But unfortunately no. Still not working. Put a meter on the connector and there's no voltage.

So fuse, switch or clock spring then. No fuse labelled for the horn in the main fusebox though. Any one know where that lives please?

Thanks

Thanks, but that's labelled "Tail" on mine. None are labelled "Horn" or similar.
Another example of the petrol being different to the diesel perhaps?

It's definitely the tail light on mine. I pulled it and as the fuse box label says, the tail lights no longer come on!

Looks like I'll have to work down from the switch. It's always the seemingly simply things...

Your looking at the wrong fuse box, the Tail light fuse is under the bonnet. The fuse you need is by the drivers right knee inside the cab;

I am looking in the drivers side fuse box. It looks like the 2L petrol has a different fuse box - less fuses than your picture for a start!

Okay, there's no power getting to the clockspring connector. Explains the problem.

Trouble is I have no idea where it's plumbed in. The Y/R feed wire disappears off into a big harness. I took the fuse box off the dash panel and there's no Y/R going into any of the fuses.

How silly to be stumped by something as simple as the horn wiring :(

I guess I could pick up permanent power from somewhere else. Not an ideal solution though.

Obvious one, I'm guessing you have the ign on, not certain if it has to be on the newer ones, but I've been caught in the past.

Need to sort mine out,

As far as we were aware it worked (we'd never known it to not work anyway!) - But it failed the MOT on not working (along with a number of other things). It was then all repaired and passed the MOT - silly me forgot to test it until a couple of weeks later and it doesn't seem to work.

I got as far as taking the horn off and connecting it to 12v which made it sound, so now need to check the wiring out.
