Auto Gearbox Problem

I wonder if anyone can advise me?

I've got a 98 2.5 diesel auto that has been driving absolutely fine until I came to reverse it last night and nothing happened.

The shift went in to R, the annoying beeping kicked in but the van stayed still, no struggle, no nothing.

I gingerly drove it to Adrian and Japan Direct this morning, (it goes up and down the forward gears without any problem) he's looked and thinks everything he can see outside of the box appears fine.

So whilst it looks very much like I'll be looking at a second hand box, I just wondered if anyone on here had had a similar problem and could maybe suggest a cheaper solution?
