Re: What is this?
I don't think so as I have also noticed a plug in the passenger footwell which is has a cover with "diagnostic" written on it.mikeonb4c wrote:Diagnostics plug in point maybe?
Re: What is this?
Could it be that's the standard diagnostic socket and the other one is Mazda specific?

There was one of those Japanese electronic toll collection devices under the steering wheel which I have just taken out. But I'd be surprised if it was connected to that.

Re: What is this?
Ah. After you mentioned that I had a google for diagnostic sockets and it looks like it could be an "OBD2" socket. Thanks.Bob wrote:Could it be that's the standard diagnostic socket and the other one is Mazda specific?
Re: What is this?
I have one of these under the drivers footwell too, now i had hoped at first glance that this was an odb2 port but mine was rectangle in shape rather than trapeze, which could indicate odb(1) as that was rectangular. Gonna have to have another look now.
Can you get a pic face on so we can see the shape of yours?

The other diagnostic socket on the nearside is it just a cover or can you see any connectors in the nearside one?

I struggled to get a decent front on picture of the (possible) OBD2 socket.Bongolia wrote:Yes that is certainly what it looks like. How many have terminals?petejleonard wrote:Ah. The one in the passenger footwell has connectors.
Re: What is this?
Interesting
Have you followed the cables out the back of it to see where they go
Are you LPG converted ?

This image is from a 2.0ltr of the Mazda diagnostic socket, yours appears to have one less pin in this socket.
Your other appears to be K line OBD.
I thought for it to function it needed a low line signal pin too.
Geoff will know more.
Edit
Actually it doesn't need pin 15 to function.
