Re: newbie Bongo owner with ticking noise question...
Hi there, I'm pretty sure from the description that I have the same problem with my V6. So my question is, how much is a charcoal canister solenoid and also, if I just ignore this ticking noise is it going to cause me problems down the line?

This device is part of the emissions control system.mr_marrakesh wrote:Hi there, I'm pretty sure from the description that I have the same problem with my V6. A charcoal canister is there to catch the fuel vapours from the tank normally.
When the ECU sees a run signal it releases the gas by opening the canister allowing air to pass through the canister and so the charcoal taking the mixture into the engine where it is burnt.
Whether it could be safely left I am not sure, I would think not, as if the valve is being opened when it shouldn't then it may adversely affect the fuel air ratio and that could lead to problems.
Having said that the O2 sensor may try and correct that situation.
I would say its best to repair/replace it.

Hi, sorry for the hijack of thread, I have tried to contact silverbongo directly to no avail. I was wondering does anyone know how much the charcoal canister is, if it is actually available to buy and if it isn't does anyone know of a replacement alternative ?

It would appear they did not replace the canister but they replaced the
“charcoal canister solenoid”

Can be purchased from Mazda Dealer £70~£100 depending on where you go, the old trick was to wrap them in foam.Enzoforever wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 8:55 pm Sorry yeah, the charcoal canister solenoid.

I presume the wrapping in foam solves the clicking noise but surely something is wrong with it. Do you think it's important to get it changed?

Personally (if it is the problem) I would fit a New solenoid not S/H , as I said "old trick was to wrap them in foam"Enzoforever wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2017 9:02 am I presume the wrapping in foam solves the clicking noise but surely something is wrong with it.
