Roofing wont stop beeping
Hi,
My 1998 Bongo electric roof goes up but never stops beeping. I haven't had it long and I am sure that the first few times I tried it that it stopped beeping when fully raised. Also I can lower it without pushing the Lower lock button in the roof so I thinking either it's really not fully open, or there is a sensor that thinks it isn't. Does anyone know of a good place to start looking?
I am off to Allans in Plymouth tomorrow to get some other things checked over but wanted to ask about this first on here.
Thanks,
Matt

Allan is your man for sure, might be worth trying to 'Help' it with a gentle push as it goes up the last couple of inches.
Are you running the engine when raising said roof? The battery alone will strugle to raise fully.

Bob's right - very common, especially in cold weather when roof tenting is stiffer, for roof not to quite reach the point where the beeper goes off. Try with engine on and helping it up a bit especially towards the end of its raising action. I've also noticed that since I fitted new roof motors, I haven't had this problem, not that I'm suggesting you go to that expense, but its worth noting.Bob wrote:Allan is your man for sure, might be worth trying to 'Help' it with a gentle push as it goes up the last couple of inches.

Most likely it isn't fully up. Everything said in the first couple of answers.
There are many reasons for roofs to get sluggish and it is often a matter of working through them.
First I suggest cleaning the runners. Personally I use alcohol to clean out grunge, then use a silicone lubricant. WD40 is not recommended.
Might get some clues by timing the roof with and without a helping hand. Typical times are 20-25 secs up and <15 secs down.
This thread covered a lot of the possible causes

Thanks everyone, I was raising with the engine on.
The runners are pretty grungy. Depending on now much other stuff it needs tomorrow (I am expecting alot) I will get it looked at tomorrow.

Wait till warmer weather, when old gunge will be softer and easier to remove, then give it a good once over as suggested. Until then a little hand assistance should hopefully do it (on the rare occasions when you might want it up in this weather although, as my Bongo mechanic advises, regular use is the key to longevity )peeky1323 wrote:Thanks everyone, I was raising with the engine on.

Re: Roofing wont stop beeping
Hi
I've recently bought a bongo (1996). I have a similar problem. The roof goes up and won't stopped beep. It was stiff initially so I used spray grease all over the shop and cleaned the runners. After some gentle and then more forceful pushing the roof seemed to be up and looking quite taught. It now goes up to this point unaided. Unfortunately the beeping doesn't stop.
I am aware of the microsensor on the passenger side. I have activated this manually with a knife and the beeping stops, suggesting its not the sensor. Its just so hard to see how close the roof arm is activating this itself when its up. There is some resistance which suggests its not going any further.
Has anyone got anything to suggest?
Thanks,
neil
p.s. I live in Edinburgh in case there is someone to suggest going to see.

Release the zips and see if it goes up happily sometimes there can be a little shrinkage in the material. Also clean the chrome sections of the gas struts with a cloth wrapped round and pulled to and fro from top to bottom its amazing how much grot comes off at times, they don't need any extra oil or lubrication as that should be in the black section unless the gas struts have lost gas over the years in which case its replacement time.

Re: Roofing wont stop beeping
Mine still does it occasionally. I have a stick that I use to keep the bonnet up and I give it a gentle push with that and the beeping stops
Re: Roofing wont stop beeping
Mine has always done this, even with a helping hand. I gave up in the end as the tent is taught. I suffer with low voltage at the motors and possibily gas struts needing replacing however we live with it!

Re: Roofing wont stop beeping
Managing to stop in beaping in the end. By laying on my back in the roof and pushing the roof even while reaching under to press the button, I got it expended that wee bit extra
Thanks for help.
Thanks for help.

I have had the same issue. SImply ensured that the canvas was located properly on the folding struts so it wasn't preventing the roof rising to its max height. Basically everything the others have said is spot on.
