AFT lock cancel button

Post by BongoBeeman » Wed Jun 24, 2015 8:38 am

Was showing the bongo to a relative in the drive last night and when it came to putting the bongo up and down it didn't need the lock/cancel button either way - I would have thought you'd have to press it to come down at least

It should only work on the way down. Does your roof stop beeping when its fully in the up position?

Actually, no it didn't stop beeping when it was up, what does that mean?

That means it wasn't all the way up - which is why you didn't need to cancel it to bring it down.

The AFT not making it all the way to the top (so the beep stops) is a common problem. Sometimes it needs a little shove from inside to help. Bongo viagra. If the problem persists then for starters make sure the runner mechanism is cleaned and lubed (plenty of threads on here advising choices of lube, but not not not WD40).

Bongo level?
Any odd noises (groaning, creaking, squeeking) on the way up or down?
Does it seem to struggle once it is over half way up?

If you look on the roof runners at the back you will see that the roof hasn't got as far back as it would like. You should be able to see a 'tide mark' where it should get to.
With mine I sometimes need to lower it a little then push up while it's raising until it stops beeping (might take a few goes too)

If the runners are getting all the way back, then it could be a microswitch problem.
If it really is not getting all the way (the most common problem) then dannyn and mikexgough have covered most causes!

just as I jumped in - I didn't read if anyone had stated - do you have your engine running at the time of lifting ?

apologies if asked

mine does it a few times at the beginning of the season - warm weather

first few times of raising it doesn't reach its peak and switch off

I normally

1 - engine running - press roof up
2- raise about half way - with engine running - let go of button jump out and go into passenger section (rear) bleeper will still bleep
3- press raise again and follow with pressure as it lifts - giving it a little help raising - don't over push
4 - if this doesn't work - lower it slightly and go again
5 - and again lol
6 - if it works - lube - spray grease etc on the runners etc - wipe if gummed up
7 - if it didn't - switch ignition off - spay rails and clean as above
8 - star over
9 - if this all fails
10 - pretend its a tin top

normally works for me every time
its just not making connection at the top switch

you can only raise it that little bit whilst its raising by the motor ( I think ) never tried it with out

hope it works for you

Andy wins, number 1 tip

umm, doh!
Didn't have engine running, just electrics on. Goes up fine with engine running.
Thanks to everyone who suggested something, it was the nut behind the wheel that was the problem
