EGR System blanking

Post by al & chris » Thu Mar 26, 2015 1:15 am

Thinking about blanking off the egr system and looking at old posts looks like quite a few of you have done this in the past.
Is anyone now having problems after doing this. Reading other posts on the web looks like there could be a link to blanking off and turbo problems, or is this just rubbish. Looking long term and high mileage could there be any link?

Mine was blanked off soon after we got it 7 years ago, no probs so far, and we tow a caravan.

Contact Allans in Plymouth for plates.

Well worth doing for a bit of mid range boost in power plus a recent post suggested it makes the engine less fussy on the oil you might use.
Engine will generate a bit more heat but this should not put you off as it won't overheat due to a blanked of EGR

Any other advantages/disadvantages people know of. How much hotter will engine run.

Gasy - there is a fitting guide here http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk/shop/

I have not done this myself so can't comment on the accuracy of the guide though.... But Allans seems to have a good reputation

There's a few pictures here of ours when I did it. Later model but basically the same layout.

best thing ive ever done to my motor. also diverted the crank/rocker cover breather pipe, this goes into the air intake pipe at the rear of the head, made mine like the old mini,s the pipe goes to ground level. all this makes the engine breathe clean fresh cooler air resulting in a cleaner burn once warmed up and a better bang as the cooler air is denser.

115000 miles and no crud or oil leaks, plus my engine oil and filter now last 2 years. 8) 8) .

I've got a feeling this might inspire a few of us to undertake a fairly simple spring project, even if we are of the 'if it ain't broken..' school.

So diverting rocker breather should offset slightly higher engine temp caused by blanking off?

Thanks Simon. Just had a quick look at the link and it seems a bit heavy for this time of night. I'll read it and digest it at a more appropriate time!
