Ah ok thanks. According to the site I've linked I need the Japanparts FO-505S or FO-505P filter.

The one I was given at the motor factors is a FO-KO5S

It looks like they gave me the wrong oil filter so I'm going to be returning it today.

While I'm there should I switch out the oil too?

98 166k 2.5TD

What oil should I be putting in there?

I've seen a couple mentioned, I have 10 W 40 here but should it be 5 W 30?

Right... that had to be the least fruitful trip to town in recent memory.

I somehow managed to get burnt oil on the cardboard box of the filter I planned on exchanging while on my way in to exchange it. Totally my own fault so I wasn't expecting to be able to return that one  #-o

They told me that the one they gave me would fit anyway but it's not one of the 2 Japanparts oil filters recommended as a replacement for the VSY114302.

Then when I asked them about oil they told me 10W30 is only used in power washers and my online sources were talking shite. I also got asked if I bought the van new and how do I know what kind of oil was put in it before I bought it?

Going to be going somewhere else for the proper oil filter tomorrow

Have sourced and fitted the correct filter and filled it up with 5W-30.

The van is back on the road, the sun is shining and the weekend is here.

All is right with the world again
