K&N replacement for Mazda Bongo 2.0 flat panel filter?

Post by Purple Pixie » Sat Oct 18, 2014 5:39 pm

The 1999 Mazda Bongo/ Ford Freda 2.0 petrol paper air filter is 200mmx 236mm x 29mm according to the last one I bought

Now K&N do this reusable one http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=33-2117

Part 33-2117 30 mm x 232 mm x 197 mm

Has anyone used one of these as an alternative to the disposable filter?

Close but no cigar?

Many thanks

Dr B

I've fitted one to my first diesel Bongo and then got one for my V6. Doesn't seem to perform any better than a conventional paper filter but does have the advantage of lasting forever. Probably over 3 or 4 years it will have paid for itself.

Perfect :)

Copy and paste the filter part number into eBay and they pop up :) Cheaper that K&N direct too. Personally, I've always used Piper X, but K&N have been good to me in the past too :)

Easy to fit, just removed the air pipe from the filter housing to get better access,
and fitted like-for-like against the old paper one.

Acceleration seems smoother and maybe faster at the cost of a bit of induction roar.

Next thing is spark plugs and maybe (resistor cap?) HT leads

Easily sourced .. check how many ignition leads are on yours .. on the 2.0 there are usually only 4 .. (but there can be 6 or 7 on the V6) ..

I would think that is the ... wrong ... dizzy cap for the 2.0 Bongo as that is for a five 'King Lead' ignition .. which yours does not have ..

If Blueprint parts are available then (to me) that is by far the better ones to go for ..

Most Blueprint parts are genuine OEM (ie:- not pattern parts)..

They are usually made in the same Factories as .. Mazda .. Toyota ..Honda etc; source there own products from .. and generally cheaper than a franchised dealers price ..
