Hi!
You may or may not have read about the continuing saga of the recall of certain mazda vehicles owing to an airbag problem
(Reuters) - Honda Motor Co and other Japanese automakers on Monday recalled more cars with potentially explosive air bags supplied by Takata Corp, bringing the total recall so far to around 10.5 million vehicles over the past five years.

The series of recalls cover both passenger-side and driver-side air bags, which the world's second-biggest automotive safety parts maker manufactured in 2000-02. The total ranks it among the five biggest recalls in the industry's history.
Now I can't establish if there are any Bongos/ Fredas involved however I got this email from Mazda:
Dear Mr Bullas
Thank you for your email.
We are able to search on our records for any outstanding recalls on your Mazda Bongo. Please provide the VIN number and I can send it to our homologation team to investigate.
If there is any additional information feel free to call us on 03457 48 48 48. We are here between 9.00am to 6.00PM Monday to Friday.
Yours Sincerely
Kirsty Macbeth

I am going to ask for some approximations as to whether any bongos are suspect as there will be no formal route for the current owners to be contacted

We have previously investigated this issue and reported the results in club newsletter edition 39 (Summer 2013):
You may have seen in the press that some Mazdas built between 2000-2003 have been recalled due to safety concerns about the passenger side airbag. We have checked with Mazda UK and have received the following response: "We have investigated your concern regarding the Mazda Bongo airbag. It can be confirmed that the Mazda Bongo is definitely not affected by the recall for the passenger airbag."

Re: Mazda Airbag Recall?? 2000-2002+
I hate to be a pedant but I'm going to revive this thread to note the following:
1. The assurance from Mazda quoted by Ian says "...not affected by the recall for the passenger airbag." (my emphasis)
2. The first of the two articles linked below mentions specifically the driver airbag needing replacement for (some) Bongo vans - excluding passenger airbags.
http://www.autonews.com/article/2016063 ... ta-airbags
https://www.cnbc.com/2016/02/19/mazda-r ... rbags.html
Given the content of those articles and the greatly-increased risks now recognised with at least "alpha" Takata bags, is it perhaps time to revisit this issue with Mazda?
