Main battery charge

Post by Oldboybob » Sat Jan 11, 2014 7:48 pm

Hi all, can anyone tell me if when on a hook up your main battery gets charged or just the leisure? hardly used my bongo lately as I am always on a motorbike and the battery has died twice in the last week. Got it hooked up at home not sure whether that will give it a charge or not.

It depends on what you've got fitted. The majority of charge units such as Zig CF8 are intended to charge the leisure battery while on hookup at site as that is the one you would be discharging. If in doubt, connect a conventional battery charger to the starter battery to get it back to the correct voltage. If the battery is getting on a bit, or has been allowed to discharge then it's probably time to invest in a new one.

If you have the facility on your control panel to select which battery you want to run off, then that will be the selected battery that will receive the charge from the built in charging system. So if you can select vehicle battery do that and it will change the SB for you.
However as stated it will depend on your control panel.

Hope that helps.

Some Zig units can be modded so that the SB will charge as well as the LB.
Have a look at this thread where I modified it. Be careful though as it involves some 240v work.
