Assuming you are a new Bongo owner.... You are sitting on top of the engine hence the heat....obviously my disclaimer here is that it isn't getting over hot due to coolant or other issues

The centre console area will get pretty warm but it normally takes a little while before you notice it.

It takes about 2 to 3 mins and you can smell the heat if you know what I mean.

Check that the seats are correctly locked down, and that there isn't any insulation missing.
Under the seats, both sides, there are three sprung latches which lock the seats in position and seal the engine bay from the Cab. If they have been left undone or the rubber seals and insulation have been damaged that might be the cause of your problem!

I find the metal latches work loose on mine and need a regular pushing back into shape with the rubber tent peg hammer. When they work loose I notice fumes more than heat but it is a V6, so different.

Lift the covers with engine running and try and see if anything obvious could be causing it. It shouldn't be getting hot only minutes after start up. Agree with others about the latches though. Keep us posted.

One consistent problem with mine has been trying to get some heat in.

What is the temp reading after 10 mins running - on the dash gauge? Does it sit happily at the 12 o'clock position?

Could there be a heatshield missing from the exhaust manifold? The manifold is the only thing that would normally produce a lot of heat in a very short time so I would check that.

and that the rubber round the underside edge of the seat flaps hasnt rolled, so letting the heat through to the cabin.

Lots of conjecture, wouldn't it be better to know what engine is fitted?

Indeed. Hence my hint to lift the covers. It doesn't so much matter what engine it is, as what it does, since the latter is the reason for having the former.

Hi all thanks for the replys have taken bongo back to the garage I got it from have said about the heat he said you will get heat in the middle.i now know what the smell is it had a oil leak as well after standing and arguing with the dealer for ten mins.got a call today saying the camshaft oil seal was leaking so they have repaired that.its still under warranty till June.so hopping if any thing else goes wrong it will before the end of June.

But not sure if its normal for the camshaft oil seal to go like that I have had a few cars in my time but not a bongo so it may be a comment thing with bongos.picking bongo up Monday.just find some car dealers hard to deal with when things do go wrong even thou its under warranty.

Thanks
