heaters blowing cold

Post by friendeedebs » Fri Feb 22, 2013 9:13 pm

My heaters are blowing cold air at me not hot :?
I'm not very up on all this but as I've just had the head done I thought the heaters would be blasting warm air at me on these cold nights on Anglesey
Any ideas?

That is not usually a very good sign! Especially after having had a head done, it suggests that there is an air block, stopping the coolant getting around the heater matrices, its air blocks that cause the head to overheat ......

The other possibility is that the heat flap isn't operating, check the passenger footwell on the side of the air con box in the centre is a little servo that operates an arm that pushes the flap up/down;

make sure this operates as you vary the temperature setting, if its been damaged that might be the cause.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I had my head renewed and have had persistent over heating problems since. The drop in cab temp in my case has been swiftly followed by the temp gauge rising so remain very vigilent.
I strongly advise you go back to whoever did the head. Did they bleed the system properly? Are there any leaks as a result of their work?
What was the original cause of the head going in the first place? Has that been idenftified and fixed?

Sorry to hear somebody in the same boat as me. Keep us posted on developments and good luck.

thanks will have a look tomorrow, the bottom hose was cold tonight after doing a fair journey which worried me, I'm sure that was an original problem :cry:

A cold bottom hose on a long fast journey is quite normal as the thermostat will not be open. You'd need to be sat in slow moving traffic for maybe 10 minutes, or stationary with fairy high revs before it opens up to warm the bottom of the radiator. A reasonable time to expect the bottom hose to be fairly warm is when you hear the two radiator fans operating (when the A/C is not on).

I have a couple of runs following a long journey home from my purchase. I haven't heard the fans at all yet - in some respects I see this as a plus BUT I would like to know that they are working!. Is there a clever way to get the fans to cut in - I have tried sitting at idle with the engine warmed (it is idling a bit fast 950aprox) however the fans didn't cut in.

As I understand it the fans only start as the stat gets close to or fully open which is quite hot and might be difficult to achieve this time of year. there are some great threads about this containing detailed information, temperatures etc. I always have the aircon on in the summer and I can't remember ever hearing the fans in the winter.

no, rang the garage and they said they'd get back to me and haven't, meanwhile my front brakes went so bongo is now in a garage here getting new pads and discs and hopefully not calipers (whatever they are) :roll:
I'll have a whole new bongo soon and will have to live in it when I'm homeless due to never ending bongo bills :( just don't ask if my tax is due today too :cry:
