If you're doing it the conventional way, then 22 is not listed. This is the only website I've come across that explains the diagnostic codes: http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm
In addtion to what engine type you have, it would be helpful if you tell us what the symptoms are . The engines fitted to Bongos are a pretty ancient design, so won't have modern OBDII fault codes.

Engine turns over - will not start - no power getting to stop solonoid. Glow plug relay flashes indicating engine fault, garage says fault 22?

Does the glow plug light flash as soon as the ignition is turned on? check the internal fusebox, centre row far left? 15A.
Does the car have an alarm or immobiliser fitted?
