Poor starting when warm.

Perfect starting from cold, but when warm it turns over for much longer before firing. I did find a loose vaccum pipe from the bottom of the valve/actuator/autochoke? connected to throttle housing, and the long metal tube that goes up to the solinoid valves. Once replaced all seemed okay.......but no, the next day same again. Any ideas?

Glow plugs replaced recently, so guessing I never replaced the hose correctly.

Try slackening off the fuel filler cap in case you're getting a vacuum building up after a run.

In that case, perhaps it's an air / fuel leak on the injector pump which gets worse as it warms up.

L'oreal used to do this and it turned out to be worn seals inside the pump causing fuel to very slightly start to return to the tank, cost me £400 to have the pump removed and resealed, also worth a look is your battery condition / type if a sub standard battery is fitted then the engine is gonna be relying on just battery power for compression of fuel when it's warm, you need something equal to a Bosch S4 335, 830 cranking amps 95Ah.

as above, usually a fuel seal, what year is the car? more common on post 99- but i have seen it on a few early models

Thanks for the replies. She is a "96" model, with about 230,000Km on her and I'm afraid not worth spending £400 on a pump refurb. I've had her since Feb 2007, and have been told it will be touch and go if she will make it through the MOT in Feb without spending a small fortune on her, as she only just got through this year.

I have a good look at the vac pipes first, and will let youse know.

You could try a second hand pump from Ady's breaker in North Yorkshire and twist Matt's arm to give you a hand with the job.

i think ian sells a nose seal, if not, allans at plymouth does, or any bosch service centre.
