Hi all..No look finding a Alternator regulator for my bongo SGL5 4x4 ... no one in the whole world seems to have one for sale!!
Im looking a tthis one and just wondering if you guys think this one will fit o.k?? im not bothered that its a 80 amp as the auto sparky at work recons its only if you use AC/RADIO INTERIR LIGHTS and every thing else on that will work the alternator harder.. he says
most of the time general running amps are as low as 10amp charging the battery alone!! anyone actually tested this??
Anyway this is the one i hope to god will fit... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400301276955 ... 1438.l2649
Not seen the code numbers before so not sure...MY ALTERNATOR is all good.brushes, windings etc..Its just the charge light/sediment indicating the regulator...if the above alternator is a different fit maybe i will be able to rob the Regulator out of it and fit to my original alternator!! Penny for your thoughts?? thanks....
Will this alternator fit??

Re: Will this alternator fit??
it will fit but wont last. there was someone selling the same over here, 80 amp output suitable for the ford 2.5 and saying it was ok for the bongo. it does physically fit but the internals were not man enough, ive replaced 4 or 5 of these for peeps local to me that have failed around the 1 year mark.
simon put up the adress of the guy in cornwall that had the bits you need, did you try him??.
the bongo alternator is machine assembled (rivited) so a home strip and repair is not possible and the solder used will be a specialist job.
if you need a complete gen mazda spare i have 2 under the bed make me an offer (plus postage) .

Well yes he is quite correct and totally wrong!chiefster1976 wrote: he says most of the time general running amps are as low as 10amp charging the battery alone!! anyone actually tested this??
Yes MOST of the time the charging current to the battery is typically less than 10 Amps, however just after starting the engine the battery, especially if its been a while to get it going, then the charging current can easily reach 60+ Amps only for a short period of course, but if its night time and you have the headlamps on then the demand can easily exceed 80 Amps on the alternator. Now this won't blow the alternator, but it will strain it and the reports on under rated alternators was that they failed again after several months to a year, which would be typical of a device being overheated on occasions.
