sediment/charge light again!!
Hi all.. Seems this is a common problem with different fixes, but do we just expect its the alternator every time??
Both lights come on are bright never dim.. Only on occasions comes on,flickers, sometimes stays on for around 10-30 seconds.
Reving sometime helps them go out but NOT always, sometimes stays on at 2500rpm..
Heres my readings thus far although i have NOT managed to catch a reading as yet when the sed/charge lights are ON..
**Under load = lights/main beam/CB radio/Radio,interior lights,AC on.**
...............................not running...................Running....................Under load
Leisure batt..............12.6V.........................13.8V.....................13.8V AC kicks in 13.1V
Starter batt..............12.6V........................13.8V......................13.8V AC kicks in 13.1V
Alternator..................................................14.0V.....................13.4V.
all fuses o.k. earth to leisure and starter o.k.. Had issue sometime after a redarc split relay was fitted, but maybe just a coincedence as the charging graph above seems pretty consistant..
An auto sparky recons, to fully determin if alternator is on its way out,i need to catch both lights on and test then at the alternator..
Any ideas to throw around is appreciated..
She is up for sale but scratching my head wether to just get the alternator reconditioned??

Re: sediment/charge light again!!
Up date ALL!! Bongo under load(lights/A.C etc on) when sediment light OFF is 13.5 Volts ...
i managed to catch the voltage when the sediment light and charge light are on... = 12.6 Volts...
Does this indicate that the alternator is goosed????

Re: sediment/charge light again!!
If the engine is running then you would expect the alternator to be charging the battery in excess of 12.6 volts (this is the nominal battery voltage under no load!), 14+ volts is expected when you have a few rev's going as well. The lights are driven directly from the alternator signalling circuit;
If you click the red 3 link then you will see it feeds the two lamps charge/sediment (via diodes) directly.

Re: sediment/charge light again!!
Update... Alterenator is off the car. A work collegue (suto sparky) said brushes are o.k, good be just a bad earth originally, but sugests to chang ethe Regulator to be safe. my local electrical suppliers cannot find a listing for japanese hitachi LR190-731 regulators..
Most of the ranger/ B2500 alternators seem to be only 70-80amp on www.ebay.com.au..(OZ)
My alternator was an exchange unit replaced in January 2010...
Anyone found a supplier of Hitachi LR190-731 regualtors etc??

Re: sediment/charge light again!!
there was some guy who was rebuilding the bongo alternator from the cornwall area i think, he may supply the parts you need to have it rebuilt local to you.
someone may be able to find a link to the thread .

Re: sediment/charge light again!!
Isn't the alternator itself the LR190-731 ?
and the regulator within it is the L190 G6340 ?
See http://www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=H ... =LR190731B
Doesn't help locate one however!

Re: sediment/charge light again!!
Thats the OEM's code for the regulator, if you search for the for the first number you only get complete Alternators showing up.
