Auto box filter 2001 diesel

Post by briwy » Sat May 26, 2012 11:23 am

Got a bit of a leak from the gearbox sump so have taken it off to seal it up with Hylomar.

I decided to have the filter off and clean it out at the same time but looking at it there are 15 bolts holding it on, not 4 as mentioned elsewhere.

Has anyone had one of these later filters off? I don't want to undo 15 bolts and find they are holding some vital gearbpx component on as well as the filter

Hi briwy,

The parts list for a 2001 2.5td does not show a filter/strainer,can you take a pic of the control valve body.
(the bit that the filter normaly bolts on to)
Cheers.

Max, thanks, yes seen that but mine seems to be different. In the fact sheet it mentions 4 bolts and the pictures on kirsty's thread confirms that.

Rita. Pics below. Clearly shows the filter but attached with a lot of bolts, not just four.

Certainly different to the one kirsty shows in the thread

Looking at the filter guauze on the pictures it looks to be very clean which it should be as it was cleaned and the fluid changed last year when we got the van. As I said, only reason to take it off is to cure the leak from the sump gasket.
If no one can confirm it's OK to undo all the bolts I'll leave it for now until I'm sure it's OK.

you will have this more modern stuff than us poor bongo owners.
a phone call to mazda will sort it out mate, mine at blackburn lancs is very helpful and knowledgeable, its perrys.
quote the vin and he will pull the drawings for your box and tell you how many bolts the filter has.

i would pull it off looking at it.-----------------------but thats just me.

I have a 2000 diesel with same type of filter as yours, no problems removing the filter but the bolts are different lengths so take care when re fitting.

its the older type of bongo that has the 4 bolt filter, the newer has the loads of bolts type and as warned they're 2 different lengths, but its near impossible to get them mixed up so dont worry too much, there are 2 different types of filters for the newer shapes, 1 being all metal the other semi plastic, makes do difference tho as they're exactly the same
