Help, bongo dumped oil

Post by mayk19 » Sat Oct 15, 2011 12:43 pm

bongos been sat for a couple of weeks, just staerted her up this morning, after about twenty seconds it dumped all the oil out onto the floor. There was a gurgling noise while it happens. Looks like it's leaked out from somewhere near, or from the oil filter.

Have I been lucky and filter seal has gone or something worse caused this ? I guess get a new filter on it, refill with oil and see if there are other issues ?

Thanks for advice,
Simon

Hi,
Sounds like the Oil Control Valve(s),sticking its quite a common fault on these engines especially if they are not used regularly.

The oil filter is often blamed for this fault.

Best to get the valves looked at and the oil pressure checked.

PS they often free themselves, but best to have it checked.

Cheers..

may be way off mark here, but could it be a transmission pipe split from the gearbox?

Check levels then you'll know  auto transmission oil or steering fluid should be reddy/orange.

Spent the weekend on it. The Leak is CERTAINLY from around the filter. I only threw the chain around the filter and it came undone, my diagnosis so far is the garage didnt tighten the filter properly back in May when it was changed. There were no marks at all on the can so I think it was hand tightend.

New filter on order, then I guess its just start it up and see if I was quick enough to kill the iginition ?

All resolved, engine OK, it was the filter. The filter was very differnt to the one that was fitted, don't know if that was the issue.
Im happy !

When you fit the filter smear a bit of oil on the rubber seal, now i could be wrong but i think the filter should be tightened by hand not by chain,(hand tight) but obviously tighter than the garage fitted.
Lost without my Bongo.
