Hello,
Phoned up a garge for quote on a Bongo (even though I havetn actaully got a bongo, but hopefully i soon will have and its good to dream!!) and asked for a full service. He said "ooohhhhh, i think they use fully synthetic oil so thats an extra £30 compared to part synthetic service", is this true or is he just tryin to pull the wool over my eyes!!
thank you

From Faq sheets in members area
Synthetic and semi-synthetic oils
Synthetic and Semi-synthetic oils are fine if your engine has done less than
25,000 miles and you can afford the extra outlay (which is significant). They are
not a cure-all, they will not stop your engine burning oil and they will not replace
worn metal surfaces. If you chose to use these oils after the wear has taken
place, you may or may not slow down the continuing rate of wear. In my opinion
they are a waste of money in engines having covered over 25,000 miles

I have semi but it was cheap on e-bay 10Lts Comma 10W 40 at £20 inc p&p

Technically Bongos don't run on either as only straight mineral oil was common when they were first made - so he's talking b........s.
I think you need to find a Bongo friendly garage which knows what it is talking about, I wouldn't let anybody that ignorant near a Bongo unless you have deep pockets or enjoy litigation.

10/40 mineral oil, no need for fancy stuff.
Lost without my Bongo.
Re: Does the bongo run on full or part synthetic oil??
I thought 5W/30 was the recommended grade.daveblueozzie wrote:10/40 mineral oil, no need for fancy stuff.

And I quote:-
For lower and medium-mileage vehicles, I would recommend 10W/40 as
an alternative to the stipulated 10W/30 if you cannot find the latter. (5W/30 is
apparently suitable for temperatures cold weather, down to –10C).
