how often do you have to change oil filter

Post by martin70 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 10:58 pm

I put a new oil filter in at my last change....do I need to change the actual filter again?
Im going to try to change the oil myself having seen it done last time. However this was watching the mechanic and it was up on a ramp so easy for him.
Any other advice greatly appreciated from the ever helpful members of this forum?
How often do you change other fluids as I have now done 25,000 miles
thanks in advance

How long ago/how much milage since your last oil change - not 24k I hope? Oil changes are recommended 6 monthly or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first, bit of leeway on that allowing for better longevity of modern oils if you use a semi synth, Oil filters every other change.
Fuel filter around 30,000miles, same for air filter, brake fluid every 2 years.
Sevice schedule is in the fact sheets in the members area.

dot 4, bleed it through, reservoir's under the bonnet, but if you aren't sure what you're doing, leave it to the experts, get it wrong & 2 tonnes of bongo doesn't stop.

Oil change is a piece of cake with a Pela Pump.

Great bit of kit.

Any recommendation on which model pela pump. I didn't enjoy the oil change I did, it's a pain.

Thanks,

The pela 6000 - http://www.pelapumps.co.uk/ just big enough to do a full oil change in one go. Done 3 changes with one, brilliant, don't poke the tube down to hard, you can just "feel" it hit the bottom, sucks it all out, I've taken the sump plug out each time afterwards & there's literally been a couple of drops each time. I got mine secondhand for a very reasonable price from Haydn Callow (cheers Haydn :D ) but I think they're only about £30ish. Did my ATF too, again pulls just about all of it out, but you must drop the transmission sump & clean all the gunge out once it's empty or you're wasting your time IMO.
