Magic windscreen Nanosolution

Post by missfixit70 » Sat Nov 01, 2008 1:23 am

I keep meaning to post about this stuff, but keep forgetting #-o
A couple of months ago I picked up some stuff in Lidls for the windscreen - Nanosolution I think it was called for a fiver, claimed to basically repel water. I thought I'd give it a go, put it on before the bash in Looe & of course then didn't drive in the rain until I got to France a couple of weeks later. By this time I had forgotten all about it, didn't even think about it until I realized it was p***ing down & I was pootling along at 110km/h without having to use the wipers, the rainwater was just running up the screen in beads, absolutely brilliant 8) .
At anything above 50mph it seems to work without fail & depending on the wind direction at lower speeds it's worked down to 30mph. Unfortunately it doesn't repel suicidal bugs, but does seem to make them easier to get rid of.
Just realised I'd typed the title as Nanasolution - that's be a whole different thing #-o

I have used Rain X for years - well since 1982- they now do a glass cleaner/Rain x combined product for around £5.99........does the business and less use of wipers and bugs snow etc doesn't stick also reduces frost on screens too.

works on headlights too........keeps the muck off =D>

If you can't find that stuff, try a local motorbike shop. I squirt stuff used on crash helmet visors, from time to time. Does the same kinda job.

A sort of teflon coating for your screen? I've seen the stuff.... keep meaning to try it... #-o

Hang on a minute.... Some of you use your bongo in the rain? Do you realize how dirty that will get it? [-X

Hallo folks. Geoff would like to know if this stuff if proof against smearing. We bought something similar in USA, and it was brill until we used the wipers and then it made a mess. I rather presume you would have said so, but just checking. Malabar.

I get no smearing from the Rain x combined product, one tip though, start using it after a new set of wiper blades as sometimes these kind of products make the 'screen slippery but old "hardened" aged wiper blades can chatter across the 'screen when used after the product has been applied.

It is also good on ALL windows and mirrors and lights, I even use it on my house windows as I am lazy and a skinflint and won't pay for a window cleaner... [-X

That was the problem I found with RainX. It was brilliant when moving quickly, but around town it was necessary to use the wipers and it was a bit like looking through frosted glass - millions of micro droplets on the screen. :(

Thank you for the replies. Geoff may, or may not, try it again, but I will definitely do the windows. I am also a skinflint. (Saves cash for more fun things!) Cheers! Malabar.

If you fit new wiper blades, remember to run a smear of neat washing up liquid over them before sweeping the screen.
