I might be wrong but here goes:The Lamda sensor keeps your fuel mix correct.
Know doubt somebody out there will put it in a more technical way.

I mentioned a new shape bongo, as they have extra warning lights that my old type bongo don't have...I'd never been aware of a "heat" light/symbol.

Yep, the lambda/oxygen sensor is probaby kapput!

Like cheffy and dolly say,it monitors the air/exhaust ratios, and adjusts them accordingly, they are quite a delicate item,and contain platinum, so can be quite expensive for what they are...Look to pay anythig between £80-£120 for one, depending on where the sensor is sourced from. I wouldn't mess about with a second hand item, it's not worth the hassle.

(just occasionally the connection can be dirty,this would give a false reading, and warning light would illuminate, try cleaning the contacts first to see if the symptoms dissapear)

Thanks Guys for the information. It hasnt come on again since that first time so maybe it was just some dust or something, but it does help to have a bit of info if i have to take it in to be repaired. Have been away a lot recently camping out and Thetford Forest and the like are dusty old places so heres hoping. Bongo and out.

If it is goosed it a easy job to do just be carefull it doesn't shear the head off in the pipe
